The Construction Safety Excellence Award winners were announced during the AGC's 90th Annual Convention held in San Diego, California. Winners were divided into six categories including Building, Heavy, Construction Management, Municipal, Highway and Specialty, and at four levels of hours worked.
Of the 28,000 AGC members, 780 applications were forwarded by state and local AGC chapters to the national committee for consideration. From those 780 applications, only 44 finalists were selected to present their safety programs to a panel of distinguished construction safety professionals from public, private and not-for profit sectors.
Independence Excavating Inc. received the First Place Award in the Heavy Division at the 700,001 to 1 million hours worked level. We were recognized as one of the safest construction companies in America this year and we take great pride in this achievement.
This award is an honor for everyone working at Independence Excavating Inc. It takes a combined effort to make our safety program successful. Doug Pruitt, incoming President of the AGC summed up our philosophy when he said, "These companies understand that safety is much more than a series of requirements. It is a way of operating that drives every decision on every project, every time." We will continue to operate this way and continue to improve our program because there is nothing more important than the safety and health of our employees.
